I was really bored since my little boy had started at nursery, and, never having studied very much when I was younger, decided it would be a good chance for me to better myself and start a part time college course. I picked upa leaflet in the local library and scoured its pages to see what took my fancy, and more importantly, which courses were available in the mornings when I had my free time. The first thing to take my eye was a course on web designing for beginners. That sounded like just the sort of thing I was looking for. I already had a computer with internet access, and maybe it would keep me away from on-line gaming if I had something else more useful to do. My computer skills were really basic, but I enjoy challenges and knew that this web designing course would improve my basic computer skills as well.

The following Friday evening I arrived at the college ready to enroll on my chosencourse. I was surprised to see how busy it was, and hoped that there would be a place available for me when I eventually got to the desk at the front of the queue. I hadn't really looked atany of the other choices, so didn'thave an alternative course to fall back on. I needn't have worried, the course was popular but there was stillplenty of room. The web designing tutor seemed really nice and assured me that I would be able to learn at my own pace and not to worry about a thing. I happily signed the enrollment form and went home, eagerly anticipating my first lesson the following week.

During the week that followed I learned everything I could about web designing, searching the internet and social network sites for any information which would give me a head start and stop me from making myself look silly in the class. Some of it looked very complicated, so I just tried to learn some of the jargon and hoped that it would not be way over my head.

I need not have worried. My tutor, Helen, was great. She explained everything in simple terms and we had very good step by step instructions to follow. I really began to look forward to my weekly lessons, and practiced at home at every opportunity. I realised very quickly that I was never going to be able to do it professionally, but nevertheless I enjoyed the challenge and made lots of new friends.
